There is an intentional displacement from the rest of the world when I am attempting to pry into the lives of others; but only briefly and only from afar and some times I capture it on my camera. Perhaps it is silly, but the act of people-watching is a surprisingly informative activity. It is a fascinating way to explore human existence and the weirdness of fellow humans.
It is both empowering and sometimes lonely, as if I am a ghost noting the existence of everyone as they continue right past, never once aware of me - allowing me a glimpse into their world. It is also a way to see myself in others. It is through a coffee shop window that I can finally understand the bizzarreness of what it means to live, watching life and all of its peculiar characters that pass by.
